It is prudent to write correctly, or face the continued degeneration of society, as George Orwell warned in 1946.
I wonder how he would feel about the comments sections, ask Yahoo queries, and forum posts on much of the Internet, but I think you can guess.
Anyone interested in improving their writing, or weeping about the demise of written English, could check out Strunk & White’s handy guide to The Elements of Style (first published in 1918). It’s required reading for undergraduates in the English Department at McGill University. However, it is equally prudent to seek alternative views on that little book.
