… (other than Anne of Green Gables, of course) is the following anecdote from my Canadian Political Science class at McGill:
Professor: America gets ‘Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.’ We get the Commonwealth expression ‘POGG,’ which means that Prince Edward Island has four Senators for five hundred thousand sheep and four Canadians.
Student: Hey, I’m from PEI!
Professor: Oh! I am so, so sorry. I stand corrected; Prince Edward Island obviously has four Senators for five hundred thousand sheep and three Canadians.
N.B. Senators are unelected officials in Canada, a post to which the above-cited professor aspired most earnestly. As do I, for that matter.
