Recently, I had the somewhat dubious pleasure of marking (grading) about 50 papers about Canadian international relations during the Cold War. (I say “dubious” because it is rarely pleasant to assign marks / grades to students, although the experience was, for the most part, amusing and informative.)
After making a note on the fifteenth paper that had “focussed” in it, it finally dawned on me that maybe they were all spelling it incorrectly ON PURPOSE. Sure enough, “focused” is the preferred English (U.S.) spelling, but “focussed” is the preferred English (U.K., Canada) spelling.
I’m still not sure what’s going on with globalisation, colonisation, or Justin Trudeau. O Canada, you mystify and intrigue me.
